Highly Trained and Specialized Doctors

Lewiston Veterinary Clinic has a staff of doctors who are highly trained in their specialties and are dedicated to providing the nurturing care your small and large animals need.

Dr. Dave Hauge

University of Minnesota,
College of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Hauge specializes in the food animal production area of veterinary medicine. One of Dave's specialty areas is working with and solving reproductive problems in cattle, often using ultrasound techniques. He also enjoys working with embryo transfers in both dairy and beef cows. Bull care is another area Dave is interested in.

Dr. Hauge is a 1983 graduate from the University of Minnesota where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. 

A small herd of registered cattle occupies much of Dave's free time but he also has time for his dogs; Lulu & Riley along with the cat, Earl.

Dr. Brett Flathers

Dr. Flathers specializes in companion animal medicine and surgery. He has a special interest in orthopedics.

Brett grew up in Worthington, MN and graduated from the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989.

Brett enjoys spending time and traveling with his wife, Laura, and children, Kaitlyn and Ryan.

They have a poodle named Percy, and three cats; Sassy, Scruffy, and Scamps.

Dr. Karen Lorch

Dr. Lorch has been treating dairy and companion animals with Lewiston Veterinary Clinic since 2005. She also has an interest in small ruminants. She has completed Food Armor training and has begun implementing this information with our dairy clients.

Karen grew up on a beef and swine farm near Dodge Center, MN. She was involved with 4-H & FFA for many years and still enjoys helping with these organizations. She completed her Veterinary Medicine training in 2004 at the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine. 

Karen and her husband Tobin live on a hobby farm near Lewiston. She is the proud mother of 3 children; Carter, Audrey & Madisen. Her family also owns 2 house cats and an array of goats, beef cattle,  chickens, barn cats, and rabbits. She also owns a Yellow Lab named Tanner & an intense German Shepherd Dog named Herbie. Interests outside of work include: her family, volunteering at church, playing piano, reading, writing, and exhibiting open class projects at the County Fair.

Dr. John Fritts

Iowa State University

Dr. Fritts specializes in Dairy medicine and companion animal care. He has always enjoyed solving problems and working with animals and people, which is why he pursued veterinary medicine.

John grew up in Dixon IL and graduated from Iowa State University in 1997 with a D.V.M. degree.

John and his wife Tessa have 3 children; Kendra, John and Logan along with their 3 legged cat Schemo.

Dr. Kathryn Murphy

Dr. Murphy's interests in veterinary medicine are dairy medicine and beef production and she also enjoys working with companion animals.

Kathryn grew up in the suburbs of Massachusetts and as such is a huge fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. She became interested in dairy cattle and agriculture through her local 4-H club when she was younger and then pursued that interest as an Animal Science major at the University of New Hampshire.

Kathryn attended the University of Minnesota for Veterinary School and graduated in May 2014. Although her love for animals initially attracted her to veterinary medicine, she really enjoys working with producers and pet owners.

Outside of work she enjoys running, baking, and visiting her family back east especially her 2 nieces and her new nephew. She doesn't have any pets of her own right now, but we're sure that will change in the near future!

Dr. Sara Hoge

Dr. Hoge will be providing companion animal production animal care in Lewiston, as well as companion animal care in Eyota. 

Sara grew up in Aitkin, located in central Minnesota, on a 50 head cow/calf beef farm where she became interested in veterinary medicine. Sara graduated in May 2017 from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. 

When not working, Sara enjoys being active outdoors including: camping, hiking, running, recreational sports and hunting. She also loves hanging out with her family.

Dr. Dennis Hovelson

Dr. Hovelson retired from our clinic in 2017 after 41 years. He has continued to work part-time providing veterinary care for his dairy herds. Dr H. enjoys having more time to visit his children and grandchildren.

Dr. Randy Snell

Iowa State University, Ames, IA

Dr. Snell retired from our clinic in 2014 after 40 years. He has continued to work with some of our area swine herds. During his free time he enjoys visiting his children and grandchildren. He can also be found on the golf course, tennis courts, or singing.
